The National Hockey League announced today that Mathew Barzal has been named the second star of the week, for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 31.
Barzal, 21, co-led the NHL with six points (five goals, one assists) in two games last week, including a natural hat trick Saturday night in Toronto. Barzal became the third youngest player in franchise history to record a natural hat trick (B. Nystrom & J. Tavares) and the first Islander since 1986 to score a hat trick in Toronto (M. Bossy).

The Coquitlam, BC native has 35 points (10 goals, 25 assists) through 37 games this season. He is currently riding a four-game point streak (six goals, two assists) and leads the Islanders in points and assists this season.
The Islanders selected Barzal in the first round (16th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. This marks his second time being named an NHL Star of the Week.
