For the second straight game, the Lightning failed to make a third period lead hold up.
Unlike on Saturday, however, Tampa Bay hung on to force overtime and eventually rallied to defeat the Wild 5-4 in a shootout at Amalie Arena on Sunday.

After Alex Barre-Boulet scored midway through the third to give Tampa Bay a 4-2 lead, goals from Kevin Fiala and Joel Eriksson Ek - both with the extra attacker on - in the final three minutes of regulation sent the teams to overtime.
Neither side was able to break through in the extra frame, but Steven Stamkos' shootout goal and three stops from Brian Elliott delivered the second point for the Lightning.
Scoring Summary
1st Period
TBL 1, MIN 0
1:06 Anthony Cirelli (5) - Victor Hedman, Ondrej Palat - PPG
Just 12 seconds into the game, the Lightning headed to the power play when Alex Goligoski was called for high-sticking. Anthony Cirelli extended that unit's scoring streak to five games less than a minute into the opportunity, tipping Victor Hedman's point shot past Kaapo Kahkonen to give Tampa Bay an early lead.
TBL 2, MIN 0
11:14 Pat Maroon (4) - Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Corey Perry
The Bolts doubled their lead in odd fashion with less than nine minutes remaining in the opening period. After stepping out in front of the net, Maroon threw a no-look backhander on goal that appeared to go over Kahkonen's shoulder. The horn sounded and the Lightning began to celebrate, but the refs ruled on the ice that the puck had stayed out. A brief review revealed that the puck had, in fact, crossed the line.
TBL 2, MIN 1
14:40 Marcus Foligno (7) - Matt Dumba, Alex Goligoski - PPG
On the Wild's second power play of the opening period, Matt Dumba's shot from above the right circle was deflected past Brian Elliott by Marcus Foligno stationed in front of the net.
2nd Period
TBL 2, MIN 2
3:56 Brandon Duhaime (3) - Jordie Benn, Rem Pitlick
A breakdown in defensive zone coverage from the Lightning left Brandon Duhaime unmarked in the slot. Off a feed from Jordie Benn, Duhaime promptly wired home a one-timer to tie the game at two early in the second period.
TBL 3, MIN 2
17:07 Anthony Cirelli (6) - Cal Foote, Alex Killorn
Cirelli's second goal of the night put Tampa Bay back in front late in the second period. Alex Killorn circled the net and looked to center for Cal Foote, but the puck went all the way through to Cirelli at the far post. Cirelli pulled the puck to the front of the net and cleaned up his own rebound after Kahkonen had made the initial stop.
3rd Period
TBL 4, MIN 2
9:19 Alex Barre-Boulet (2) - Steven Stamkos, Ryan McDonagh
Steven Stamkos' shot from the top of the slot was partially blocked by Joel Eriksson Ek. As the bouncing puck rolled toward the net, Alex Barre-Boulet turned and took a swing, managing to connect enough to beat Kahkonen and deliver what would turn out to be a very important insurance goal.
TBL 4, MIN 3
17:12 Kevin Fiala (3) - Dmitry Kulikov, Alex Goligoski
Minnesota gave themselves life with the sixth skater on and less than three minutes to play when Kevin Fiala's shot from the top of the right circle got through traffic and pulled the Wild back within a goal.
TBL 4, MIN 4
19:21 Joel Eriksson Ek (8) - Kirill Kaprizov, Kevin Fiala
In the final minute of regulation, Minnesota once again was able to pull Kahkonen for the extra attacker. Eriksson Ek got open at the near post and elevated a rebound chance over Elliott to send the Bolts and Wild to overtime tied 4-4.
Overtime

Shootout
Steven Stamkos opened the first round with a goal for the Lightning and Elliott made a save on Mats Zuccarello to give Tampa Bay the early advantage. Neither team scored again, as Kirill Kaprizov missed the net on his attempt in the third round to seal the win for Tampa Bay.
