Over the last two years, the pandemic, isolation from loved ones, and global events have taken a toll on everyone. Luckily in Tampa Bay we have many nonprofit resources for mental health assistance, including The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Thrives, and The Central Florida Behavioral Health Network. The unique work each of these nonprofits do puts the mental health conversation at the forefront of our community and helps numerous people who are currently struggling or providing care to someone who is struggling.
The grant tonight will be used to support The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Thrives, and The Central Florida Behavioral Health Network to continue to fulfill their missions. All three nonprofits strive to provide accessible resources and educate the community on the importance of mental wellness. Their work has been instrumental as we aim to break the stigma surrounding mental illness.
The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Thrives, and The Central Florida Behavioral Health Network became the 493rd Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $25.8 million to more than 600 unique nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2021, the Viniks announced the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
