SEATTLE, Wash. -- September 1, 2021 -- Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) have signed forward Riley Sheahan (@rsheahan15) to a one-year contract ($850,000 AAV).
"We're excited to add an experienced veteran like Riley to our organization," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "His versatility, strong penalty-killing ability and skill in the faceoff circle make him a valuable addition to our forward group."

The 29-year-old recorded 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 53 games with the Buffalo Sabres during the 2020-21 season. His 126:13 of shorthanded ice time led all Buffalo skaters, and his 9.51 power-play goals against per 60 ranked third among Sabres forwards who skated at least 60 minutes while shorthanded. Sheahan also led the Sabres in faceoffs (503) and ranked second on the team in both faceoffs wins (256) and faceoff win percentage (50.9) among skaters who took more than 50 draws.
Sheahan, who stands at six-foot-two, 216 pounds, has totaled 177 points (70 goals, 107 assists) in 566 career games with Buffalo, Edmonton, Florida, Pittsburgh and Detroit. He set career highs in both assists (23) and points (36) during the 2014-15 season with the Red Wings, scoring a career-high 14 goals the following season with the team. He's added seven points (three goals, seven assists) in 33 career postseason games.
The St. Catharines, Ontario, native has appeared in 110 American Hockey League (AHL) games, all for the Grand Rapids Griffins, totaling 56 points (25 goals, 31 assists) and winning a Calder Cup with the Griffins in 2013. Prior to making his professional debut, Sheahan played three seasons (2009-10 to 2011-12) of collegiate hockey at the University of Notre Dame, recording 64 points (20 goals, 44 assists) in 114 games. He was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round (21st overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
The Seattle Kraken will play their first game in 41 days on Oct. 12 at Las Vegas.
