SEATTLE, Wash. — March 27, 2024 — Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announced that they have agreed to terms with college free agent Lleyton Roed, a forward from Bemidji State University, on an entry-level contract that is set to begin next season ($950,000 AAV). He will spend the remainder of 2023-24 with the Coachella Valley Firebirds (AHL) on an amateur tryout contact.
"We are excited to have Lleyton join our organization," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "He impressed us at our development camp this past summer and continued to grow as a player this year at Bemidji State."
Roed, who stands at five-foot-11 and 174 pounds, has spent the last two seasons playing collegiate hockey at Bemidji State University. In 38 games this year, Roed totaled 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists), leading his team in goals, points, power-play points (10), power-play goals (five; tied), game-winning goals (three; tied), shorthanded goals (one; tied) and overtime goals (one; tied). Roed’s efforts this season have earned him a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award as the top men’s collegiate player in addition to being named All-CCHA First Team and being a finalist for the CCHA Forward of the Year award.
His 2023-24 campaign was preceded by a freshman season that saw him lead the Beavers in scoring with 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 36 games, becoming the first freshman to lead the team in scoring since Matt Read in 2007-08. Roed’s 31 points led all CCHA freshmen and tied for 19th among all NCAA freshmen that year. In addition to being named to the HCA Tim Taylor Rookie of the Year watchlist, Roed earned CCHC All-Rookie honors and was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week five times and the CCHA Rookie of the Month in both January and February.
Prior to his collegiate career, the White Bear Lake, Minnesota, native played for the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League, recording 41 points (22 goals, 19 assists) in 60 regular-season games, and scored one goal in five playoff games. Roed attended Seattle’s development camp as an invitee at Kraken Community Iceplex during the 2023 offseason.
