In what was one of the most memorable Kings game this season, the Kings needed all 60 minutes of regulation and more to earn these two points. In Todd McLellan's first game back behind the bench after missing the previous six due to COVID-19 protocols, the Kings rallied late without the likes of Viktor Arvidsson, Brendan Lemieux and Mikey Anderson (for two periods who left with an upper body injury).
After surrendering the game's first goal 14:02 into the first period, Blake Lizotte and Kings responded less than a minute later with a net front shot by the fourth line center. In what was an extremely physical battle from start to finish, the Kings found themselves down a goal in the final minute of the game. With just 26 seconds remaining the game, Trevor Moore knotted the game at two a piece on a rebound put away from an Arthur Kaliyev one-timer. Into overtime, Andreas Athanasiou sniped home the game-winning goal on a two-on-one 1:53 into the extra time.
Cal Petersen made consecutive starts on back-to-back days for the first time in his career and stopped 30 of 32 shots.
