The Kings faced off against the Dallas Stars on the second half of a back-to-back on Tuesday night. Having the built momentum after winning their second consecutive game in St. Louis the night before, the Kings could not overcome a slow start. Despite the full 60 minute performance in St. Louis, the Kings escaped the first period 24 hours later down just 1-0 after being outshot 18-8. Following the game, head coach Todd McLellan's credited goalie Cal Petersen for keeping the team in the game in the first.
A glimmer of hope came early in the second period when Kevin Fiala evened the game's score at 1-1 by backhanding in a rebound after springing Carl Grundstrom for a breakaway. The goal for Fiala was the Swiss's sixth point (2-4=6) in three games since being moved to a line with Grundstrom and Rasmus Kupari and his team-leading 13th point this season. Unfortunately, the tie was short lived as the Stars would explode for three goals in a span of just 1:30 midway into the second period.
Arthur Kaliyev did bring the Kings back within two goals later in the second period with a power-play goal from Viktor Arvidsson and Phillip Danault, but the Stars pushed the lead back to three with a power-play goal of their own before period's end. A scoreless third period would ensue and the Kings are back to .500 on the year with a 6-6-0 record through 12 games on the season.
Petersen made his fifth start for the Kings and stopped 35 of 40 Stars shots.
