Al Arbour

August 28, 2015 - Legendary Islanders Head Coach Al Arbour passes away at 82 years old.

After coaching three years with the St. Louis Blues, Arbour, who was nicknamed 'Radar,' took over the Islanders in 1973 and served as head coach through 1986. He returned for a second coaching stint on Long Island with the club from 1988-94.

During his tenure, Arbour led the Islanders to four-straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83. He received the Jack Adams Award, annually given to the NHL coach who "adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success," following the 1978-79 season.

Through 1,500 games coached and over a 20-year span, Arbour earned a record of 740-537-223 with the Islanders. He ranks fifth all-time in games coached (1,607) and wins (782) in the NHL.

As a former defenseman, Arbour was a four-time Stanley Cup champion with Detroit (1954), Chicago, (1961) and Toronto (1962 and 1964).

In 1996, Arbour was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
