Butch Goring is named the ninth coach in franchise history

April 30, 1999 - Butch Goring named the ninth head coach in franchise history. Goring had previously served as the head coach for the Capital District Islanders, the Islanders AHL affiliate from 1990-93. Goring had also served as a player-coach for the Islanders from 1982-85, in addition to a head coaching stint in Boston, as well as the Canadian junior leagues.

April 30, 1981 -The Islanders beat the Rangers 7-3 in Game 2 of the 1981 semifinals at the Coliseum. Mike Bossy leads the team with two goals and an assist.
