Rapid Recap NYI at EDM

The New York Islanders fell 4-2 against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night at Rogers Place, in the first half in back-to-back games.
Mat Barzal and Cal Clutterbuck put up goals, but the Islanders were unable to keep up with Edmonton's offensive execution with goals from Leon Draisaitl (1G, 1A), Kailer Yamamoto, Dylan Holloway and Zach Hyman. In the second and final meeting of the season between the two teams, the season series is knotted at one apiece.
Ilya Sorokin made 34 saves in his eighth straight start.

First Period
9:26 - EDM 1, NYI 0 PPG - Connor McDavid receives a pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and dishes the puck to Leon Draisaitl, who beats Sorokin with a one-timer from the right circle, opening the scoring on the power play.
18:40 - EDM 2, NYI 0 SHG - Connor McDavid rushes down the ice shorthanded with Kailer Yamamoto, who slides in on Sorokin and beats him five-hole to double the Oilers lead. McDavid picks up the assist for his second point of the night.
Second Period
4:42 - EDM 2, NYI 1 - Mat Barzal finds open ice and receives a pass from Josh Bailey in front of the net, roofing it past Jack Campbell to cut the Oilers lead in half. Casey Cizikas picks up the secondary assist.

15:17 - EDM 4, NYI 1 - Zach Hyman extends the Oilers lead by receiving a long pass from Leon Draisaitl, breaking in on Sorokin to beat him with a backhanded shot.
19:07 - EDM 4, NYI 2 - Cal Clutterbuck scores in the final minute of the second frame, redirecting a shot from Scott Mayfield and tipping it past Campbell.
