The New York Islanders picked up an important two points on Saturday night, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 at UBS Arena.
Scott Mayfield, Brock Nelson, Samuel Bolduc and Hudson Fasching scored for the Islanders, who beat the Flyers at home for the seventh straight game. Ilya Sorokin stopped 27 shots for his league-leading sixth shutout of the season and 16th of his career. Sorokin is one shutout shy of tying his career - and the Islanders single season - high, set last season.
With the win, the Islanders vaulted themselves back into a playoff position after briefly being knocked out by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who scored a 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday afternoon. The Florida Panthers also scored a regulation win, beating the Washington Capitals 4-2, so the day ended like it started, with the Isles (91 points) holding the second wild card spot. The Panthers (91 points) are still in the first wild card, while the Penguins (90 points) are one point out.
