The New York Islanders announced today that the club has signed forward Matias Maccelli to a one-year contract.
Maccelli, 25, recorded 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) in 71 games last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Turku, FIN native tied for fifth on the team in scoring.
In 295 career NHL games with the Arizona Coyotes, Utah Hockey Club and Toronto, Maccelli has 169 points (51 goals, 118 assists). He was named to the 2022-23 NHL All-Rookie team after scoring 49 points (11 goals, 38 assists) in 64 games with Arizona and posted NHL career highs in goals (17), assists (40) and points (57) the following season.
Arizona selected Maccelli in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. As an AHL rookie in 2021-22, he led the Tucson Roadrunners in scoring with 57 points (14 goals, 43 assists) in 47 games. Maccelli played two seasons of junior hockey in the United States Hockey League with the Dubuque Fighting Saints before spending two season in Finland’s Liiga with Ilves. He was named Liiga Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
On the international stage, Maccelli represented Finland at the 2020 World Junior Championship and the 2018 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament.
