The New York Islanders had another record-setting day at the team’s annual Islanders Children’s Foundation Golf Outing & Tennis Classic, presented by UBS.
The team raised $800K for the ICF, driving, chipping and putting their way to a good cause.
“The only thing better than golf is hockey,” Matthew Schaefer said. “To raise money and stuff like that, it's always amazing when you can help the community, help people in need, and just do things for such a good cause. It's what I love doing, and it's what we love doing as an organization and team.”
Schaefer took a look at the pristine environment at Glen Oaks Club, the site of the 18th annual golf outing, and decided he wanted to see more of it.
Well, maybe not by choice.
“A lot of people drive it up the middle and just see the fairway. I'm in the bushes and the trees,” Schaefer said. “I like to see the full golf course.”
