PRELIMINARY ROUND:

Mathew Barzal has seven points (3G, 4A) in four preliminary games at the World Juniors, notching a point in all four of Canada's contests. Barzal started the tournament with a three-point night (1G, 2A) in a 5-3 win over Russia, had an assist in a 5-0 win over Slovakia, a pair of goals in a 10-2 rout of Latvia and an assist in a 3-1 loss to Team USA.
Kieffer Bellows recorded an assist in four games for Team USA. The Americans went undefeated in preliminary play, with a 6-1 win over Latvia, a 5-2 win over Slovakia, a 3-2 win over Russia and a 3-1 win over Canada.
Otto Koivula was held off the scoresheet in all four games, as Finland struggled through the preliminary round. The defending champs are in the relegation round this year after going 1-3 in the preliminary round, including an upset loss to Denmark. Finland lost its first three games before rebounding for a 2-0 win over the Swiss.

QUENNEVILLE HITS 20 GOALS:

David Quenneville continues to score for the Medicine Hat Tigers, hitting the 20-goal mark last week. Quenneville's 20 goals are already a career-high and the Islanders' 2016 7th-round pick still has nearly half a season to build on the impressive total. Quenneville leads all WHL defensemen in goals and points (48).
Quenneville is currently riding an eight-game point streak (6G, 8A), including a goal and three assists in three games last week. Quenneville scored the game-winner in a 3-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Dec. 28, which was the Tigers eighth-straight win. Despite a pair of assists from Quenneville on Dec. 30, Medicine Hat's win streak was snapped in a 9-7 loss to Lethbridge.

WOTHERSPOON STREAKING:

Parker Wotherspoon finished 2016 with a four-game point streak (1G, 5A), as the Tri-City Americans went 3-1. Wotherspoon has 37 points (6G, 31A) in 38 games this season and is fourth among defensive scoring in the WHL.
