Back on the road for the first time in four games, the Canes started on the front foot, yet found themselves trailing after 20 minutes following Nick Perbix's first of the year.

Nashville quickly doubled its advantage on the other side of the break, but Jackson Blake responded to halve the deficit just past the midway point of the game. Blake's fourth of the year came after his initial shot was blocked by Roman Josi, only to ricochet right back to him to tuck upstairs on the backhand.

Heading into the final frame with a bit of momentum, Carolina's search for an equalizer lost some steam when Adam Edstrom made it 3-1 Predators at 5:40, allowing goaltender Juuse Saros to take over from there. The Finnish backstop held the Canes at bay as they peppered him with 12 of their 30 total shots in the closing 20 minutes alone, and a Ross Colton empty-netter capped the contest with 41 seconds to play.

Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 16 of 19 shots as his personal franchise-record winning streak ended at 10 games.

They Said It...

Jaccob Slavin following the rare regulation defeat…

“We didn’t play our best game. We didn’t play the way that makes us successful. We weren’t managing the puck well. We were taking pucks back and trying to get cute through the neutral zone and breaking out of our zone. We’re a pretty north-south team, and when we start trying to go east-west when it’s not there, it puts the stress on us. It wasn’t our best effort tonight.”

Rod Brind'Amour sharing similar thoughts...

“It’s not a work thing, it’s a smart thing. We didn’t do the things we needed to, to give ourselves a better chance, right? Too many turnovers. Taking pucks back. We’re down one, we’re in the game, but then we start doing things and trying to be too cute. That’s not a recipe for success.”

Rod Brind'Amour praising what Nashville did well...

“They worked hard. They stuck to their plan. Their goalie played really well. He made a lot of big saves to keep them in the game and keep the game going so they didn’t have to open it up or anything. I thought we were trying to do too much.”

Jaccob Slavin on the team turning the page to New York…

“We’ve got a new day tomorrow. Fresh start. It’s a long season, but we don’t want to have games build on top of each other like that. We’ll just get back to how we play the game and what makes us successful. We know what works, so we just have to stick with that.”
