Following a relatively uneventful first 20 minutes, Sean Walker's icebreaker opened the floodgates for Carolina early in the second period. That lead swelled to two just 20 seconds later as Jesperi Kotkaniemi finished off a slick give-and-go with Jordan Martinook, and a late Logan Stankoven breakaway strike put the visitors firmly in control.

Any third-period comeback hopes for St. Louis were dashed at 4:30 when Nikolaj Ehlers cashed in on a Canes power play, delivering a seam pass from Aho into the back of the net.

Kochetkov held things down from there while the crew in front of him limited the Blues to just seven shots in the final frame.

Stats & Standouts

  • Pyotr Kochetkov's shutout was the 12th of his career and the first for Carolina during the 2026-27 campaign. He surpassed Kevin Weekes and Sean Burke for the fourth-most in franchise history, and his next shutout will see him tie Mike Liut (13) for third.
  • With the win, Kochetkov became the third active goaltender to open a season with a seven-game winning streak, joining Frederik Andersen (8 GP in 2021-22 w/ CAR) and Logan Thompson (7 GP in 2024-25 w/ WSH).
  • Logan Stankoven extended his goal-scoring streak to three games (4G) with his team-leading eighth tally of the season. Carolina is one of two teams (also: EDM) with multiple players who have recorded goal-scoring streaks of that length this season.
  • Jackson Blake recorded his 100th career point in his 175th game, making him the sixth-fastest player to reach that milestone strictly as a Hurricane. Eric Staal, Sebastian Aho, Jeff Skinner, Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Nečas are the only players to do so quicker.
  • Sebastian Aho posted his second consecutive multi-point outing with two assists against the Blues. His 18 points (7G, 11A) on the year are the most he has put up through 13 games to start a season in his career.
  • Aho also recorded his 79th multi-assist game and tied Eric Staal for the second-most in franchise history. The list is topped by Ron Francis (163).
  • Nikolaj Ehlers found twine for the third time in the last three games. The Dane has bagged points in each of those outings with 3G, 2A in that span.
  • Seth Jarvis picked up a pair of points in his second game back in action, building off of his goal in Edmonton on Thursday.
  • The Hurricanes (9-2-2, 20 points) are the NHL’s first team to reach 20 points this season – the first time they’ve done so in franchise history. Carolina (13 GP) hit the 20-point mark in 13 games or fewer for the fifth time – they've hit the mark faster only twice (11 GP in 2021-22 & 12 GP in 2024-25).

They Said It...

Rod Brind'Amour summarizing the victory...

“It was a pretty solid effort all the way. I thought when we had a couple of breakdowns, Kooch was great. We had that one penalty there, and he made a couple of saves. He was just really great behind the net with the puck touches… I thought we played pretty well, and the power play goal was nice to kind of put it away."

Pyotr Kochetkov after his 12th NHL shutout...

“A win always feel good. We just want to go home [because] it’s been a long trip. I’m very happy for the guys. We won today and tomorrow is a day off. It feels amazing.”

Rod Brind'Amour raving about Pyotr Kochetkov's evening...

"I thought the goaltending was great tonight. On display. That’s how you do it… He had a couple of big saves when you need it because the game can change so quickly… He was obviously the first star tonight, for me.”

Nikolaj Ehlers on getting a bounce-back win before going home...

"It's huge. Especially when you lose the last game like the way we did. You want to bounce back right away, and we were able to do that. With the guys out, we've had guys that came in to the lineup and have really stepped up. We did that all last year, and it seems like it's started that way again this year. I'm proud of the guys in here. It sucks that we have guys out, but we've got to play with the guys that we have, and these guys step up. That's exciting for our team."

What's Next?
