In the first half of a two-game road trip, Malcolm Subban stopped 30 shots to help the Vegas Golden Knights top the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1, for the first time this season Saturday afternoon at Staples Center.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
William Carrier opened the scoring for Vegas on a tip-in less than five minutes into the game. Just before the end of the first, Anne Kopitar tied the game and the Kings claimed some momentum heading into the intermission. The tides shifted back in Vegas' favor when Paul Stastny set up Alex Tuch to put the Golden Knights ahead, 2-1. William Karlsson added to the lead with a breakaway goal in the third period and Stastny capped it off with an empty-net goal to finalize the score at 4-1.
TURNING POINT
When Karlsson put the Golden Knights ahead with his breakaway goal, Vegas used that jolt to comfortably handle the Kings. The defensive effort from the visiting team made things easier for goaltender Malcolm Subban.
