In the final game of their four-game road trip, the Vegas Golden Knights picked up a 4-3 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night at Little Caesar's Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Things didn't trend Vegas' way in the first period as Detroit emerged with a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes on a goal from Gustav Nyquist. The second period saw the tide turn in the Golden Knights favor as Jonathan Marchessault scored an early power-play goal to tie the game. Five minutes later, Paul Stastny set up William Karlsson for the go-ahead goal on a 2-on-1. At the midway mark of the period, Marchessault followed the rebound of a Reilly Smith shot and shoveled home his second of the game as the Golden Knights took a 3-1 lead. A power-play goal from Michael Rasmussen early in the third period brought the margin back to one goal but Brayden McNabb's second goal of the season gave Vegas a 4-2 edge. Thomas Vanek scored a goal with 2.7 seconds left, but it was too little too late as the Golden Knights claimed a 4-3 lead.
TURNING POINT
Detroit had a solid start to the third period as they looked to erase a two-goal deficit. Rasmussen's goal was the start they needed, but before they could find an equalizer, McNabb's goal removed the wind from the Red Wings' sails as Vegas took control in the late stages of the game.
