HOW IT WENT DOWN
Late in the opening frame, Jack Eichel fed Mark Stone for a power-play goal that put the Golden Knights ahead, 1-0. With 18 seconds to go in the period, Jake Sanderson recorded his first NHL goal to send the teams into the break knotted at 1-1. With less than five minutes to play in the second period, William Carrier stormed through the Ottawa defense and snuck a shot through Cam Talbot to give the Golden Knights the 2-1 lead. William Karlsson added to the Vegas lead with a spinning backhand shot early in the third to extend the edge to 3-1. Jack Eichel added an empty-net goal as Logan Thompson sealed the 37-save win.
