The Sharks skinny: Patrick Marleau is gone but Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns and Marc-Edouard Vlasic remain. Head coach Pete DeBoer has a contender on his hands but the window is getting ready to close. Veteran and experienced but also at the edge of prime. The Sharks will move the puck like masters when they have time and space. They're smart and skilled. Can they still move with speed as the rigors of an NHL season tax them is the big question in San Jose.
The Vegas skinny:Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury allowed four goals on Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche and that's an area where the team will want to see a reduction. Look for head coach Gerard Gallant to ice a team which will look a lot like what he'll be using once the regular season begins. There are still battles for positions ongoing and Vegas has 29 players in camp. GM George McPhee will need to trim his roster to 23 players (13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies) on Tuesday. So this is the last chance for bubble players to earn an NHL roster spot.
