The Flames have two players participating in the 2017 IIHF World Championship with Johnny Gaudreau representing the USA and Chad Johnson playing for Canada. The Americans picked up their fifth win at the tournament on Sunday, defeating Slovakia in the preliminary round.

Gaudreau scored two goals and an assist in Sunday's 6-1 win over Slovakia. In 14:17 of ice time, he had three shots on net. In six games at the tournament, Gaudreau has six goals and nine points.
In addition to Gaudreau's pair of tallies, the USA received goals from Clayton Keller, Christian Dvorak, Jacob Trouba, and Anders Lee. Slovakia's lone goal came off the stick of Martin Gernat. American netminder Jimmy Howard made 19 saves while Slovakia's Julius Hudacek made 22 stops.
The Americans wrap up their preliminary round schedule on Tuesday when they take on Russia. The match-up could determine which country finishes first in Group A; the USA currently leads the group with a 5-1 record and 15 points while Russia is second with a 4-1 record and 14 points.
