As Sonny Milano looked at his options ahead of the start of NHL training camps, he quickly focused in on the Flames.
Calgary provided him with everything he was looking for coming in on a PTO.
"The opening in that top-nine, there is a spot there for me, for me to get," he said following his first on-ice session at the Scotiabank Saddledome. "And there's a lot of good forwards, a lot of good players, lots of success last year in the league. I think it's a good opportunity."

The 26-year-old winger is coming off 14-goal, 34-point season with the Anaheim Ducks. When he was not qualified as an RFA this past summer, the search was on for where the next chapter of his career will be played.
"It was definitely a long off-season," he said. "Obviously I was hoping for a contract but that's where we are right now. I've just got to be positive. There's definitely a spot open so I'm just going to make the best of that.
"I think I have a lot to prove. I thought I was worthy of a contract after my season last year. I guess I've just got to do it again, prove I can do it again."

'There's a spot open, gotta make the best of it'

The push to land a contract started on Thursday when he hit the ice for the first time in Flames gear, skating alongside Nazem Kadri and Cody Eakin, who also is attending camp on a PTO.
"It's my first skate with the guys - just got here two days ago - so just trying to settle in and maybe try to get some chemistry with the guys," he said.
"You just want to be yourself, play your game, show your best stride and how you can help this team ... If you come out here and try to do too much, it's not going to work out."
Prior to arriving in Calgary, Milano checked in with head coach Darryl Sutter to get a bit of the lay of the land in regards to how camp was run and what to expect. The conversation left him eager to get going and make a play for spot in Calgary.
"I talked to him for the first time the day before I got here, which was Sunday. I just had a quick conversation and he seemed happy about me coming and told me that there was a spot open - I've just got to get it."
