SAY WHAT: HAIL TO THE NETMINDER

A rundown of what was discussed following the Flames' Game 1 win

by RYAN DITTRICK @ryandittrick / CalgaryFlames.com

MIKE SMITH ON TAKING 1-0 SERIES LEAD:

"It's right up there. I was a little nervous to be honest, too. I think our whole team was to start the game. But that's to be expected. It's a big moment, it's against a good hockey team, and it's in front of your home fans and you want to make them proud. I thought our guys stuck with it and we kind of got better and better as the game went on. We were able to get the first win in the series, which is big."

SMITH ON STELLAR NIGHT:

"At this time of year, you want to be at your best, feel like you're contributing. I wanted this to be one of my biggest games of the year. I don't know if you ever quite feel it. You just take it one save at a time and fortunately I was able to shut him down."

SMITH ON CROWD CHANTING HIS NAME:

"Honestly, I haven't quite heard anything like that before in my career and it gives you some confidence, obviously, when you're hearing your name get chanted. I haven't quite experienced what I experienced tonight in my 13 years in this league. I've been through a lot, but tonight was something I'll add to the list."

MARK GIORDANO ON SMITH'S BIG GAME:

"He made a couple big ones. The one that MacKinnon - you know, he's coming down with a lot of speed and shoots it through my legs - that was an important one to pick up. That's the one that sticks out to me. But handling the puck, again. People don't realize how much that helps our team. It takes away some of their forechecks and it's huge for us."

MATTHEW TKACHUK ON STIRRING THINGS UP:

"I think I play the same way against everybody. Doesn't matter whether it's first line, fourth line, first pair, third pair - try to play the same way. I've played the same way, pre-season, regular season and now playoffs. Early, I tried to get a couple hits in because I hadn't played in eight days, so I tried to get the feeling back and threw the body around a bit earlier than I normally do, but other than that, it was the same."

TKACHUK ON MANGIAPANE'S INCREDIBLE GOAL:

"Unbelievable. Some buildings are really loud in the NHL in the regular season - like really, really loud. And that was the loudest I've ever heard a building after that goal. And what a goal it was."

BILL PETERS ON GAME 1 WIN:

"Just rest and recover is what it's going to be all about tonight and tomorrow. All those guys that got that first one of the way, they should get some confidence. I thought they were a little tentative, at times, those guys that were a little new to what was going on. I think we'll get better as the series goes along."
