The Western Hockey League's regular season is winding down but Matthew Phillips is gearing up for the playoffs.
The Victoria Royals winger rattled off three goals and six points in a pair of games last week, helping propel his team to back-to-back 4-3 victories over the Spokane Chiefs that clinched their sixth consecutive postseason berth.
Phillips' weekend scoring spree extended his point streak to eight games. He now has 46 goals and 80 points on the year, which leads all Royals skaters and ranks him eighth in the WHL scoring race.

In Friday's win, Phillips scored one goal and two assists. His third period tally was the game-winner, coming at the 13:54 mark, and both of his assists were primary helpers. Phillips was named the game's second star for his efforts.
On Saturday, the Calgary native scored twice in the 4-3 overtime victory that earned the Royals a playoff berth. He scored Victoria's first goal and netted the game winner at the 2:42 mark of the overtime frame. He also had an assist on Loch Morrison's second period goal.
With his overtime goal on Saturday, Phillips tied the Royals' record for goals in a single season. Tyler Soy set the record last season when he posted 46 goals in 72 games. Victoria has seven games left in their regular-season schedule, giving Phillips a chance to break Ryan Howse's franchise record of 51 goals scored in the Chilliwack Bruins' 2010-11 season.
