ANAHEIM DUCKS

Kevin Bieksa
On the first period
We didn't play our best hockey in the first period. Not a whole lot of excuses for it. I actually thought the first five minutes were pretty good. We had some zone time and had some shots. We realized they played last night and we tried to jump on them in a hurry. After that, we had a couple of breakdowns. We had rush coverage in front of the net. Ultimately, the first period was our demise. We didn't play good the entire game.

On the game
Just a lot of breakdowns. We couldn't seem to find our composure. Mistakes happen in a game. You can't turn them into two or three or four. We didn't make plays or execute. Just wasn't a good game all around. We have a few days where we can get good practices. We can catch our breath a little bit because we've been traveling quite a bit. We'll regroup and get ready for LA.

Ryan Getzlaf
On giving up four goals in the first period
I thought we controlled the first five minutes. We just had turnovers that cost us. We didn't compete after that. We fell flat for 10-15 minutes. After that, you're just trying to get through the game, claw your way back and get something out of the game.

On if this loss was a reality check
We came out flat. The energy wasn't there and we weren't skating. We weren't doing the things that we'd like to do. It showed. We didn't accomplish anything tonight.

Head Coach Randy Carlyle
On the game
The first goal was just the start of the snowball. We got outworked in all three zones. We got outplayed by a hungrier hockey club tonight. We were nowhere near NHL-caliber playing in our performance tonight.

On if this loss was a reality check
We thought this group developed a work ethic coming from the Philadelphia game on the road. That all went out the window tonight. They outworked us. They competed a lot harder than we did in the small areas. The difference in the hockey game was that they wanted it more than we did. You can't defend that effort.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS

Sergei Bobrovsky
On the team's play compared to last season
You can see in the past few games how hard we compete and work. How hard our defenders play and how responsible each guy is. It's fun to be on this team.

On their style of play
We play hard, we compete, and we work hard. It's great to come away with two points.

On the first period
As a goalie you try to focus on the moment and keep playing. It doesn't matter what the score is right now. There's still two periods ahead of you and you have to be focused.

Sam Gagner
On Bobrovsky's play
He's one of those guys that really takes care of himself and he takes a lot of pride in that. For us the biggest thing is trying to limit some of the chances and shots in front of him so he can stay fresh. He's been playing unbelievable for us and it's something we get a lot of confidence from.

On the game
We wanted to grind them down. We know what kind of team they are. They are a tough team to play against, especially coming in here off a back-to-back. We did a good job of establishing a forecheck in the first period and created some chances down low and opened up the game from there.

Nick Foligno
On the win
We needed that win. That's a good team over there and that's the way we needed to come out. Those games are sometimes tough when you get ahead by that much early on. You can get some bad habits. We had a couple let downs, but Bob [Bobrovsky] played really well. That's a good road win and we'll take that.

On the early lead
It was speed and good plays. Smart plays, trying to play quick against a really good team. The first shift, they really started to show what they could do and we tried to get away from that as fast as possible. It was a timely goal. A great play, and we started to roll after that.
