Team USA suffered its first loss of the 2018 IIHF World Hockey Championships on Tuesday. Against Finland, the United States dropped their matchup 6-2 in the final preliminary round matchup for both teams. Devils net minder Keith Kinkaid backstopped the American's yet again, a game in which he went down momentarily after being struck by a shot in the neck. Kinkaid remained down for a few moments before getting up to finish the game.

With the loss, Team USA finishes second in their group, after going 4-2-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Kinkaid started six of the seven games for the United States, posting three regulation wins, an overtime win and one shootout victory. He also had two shutouts.
Devils forward Blake Coleman finished group play with one goal and one assist, while defenseman Will Butcher added one goal and three assists in the preliminary round.
Team USA will play the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, May 17 at 10:15 a.m. ET, against the Czech Republic.
Team Swizterland was also in action on the final day of preliminary play. The Swiss beat France 5-1 on Tuesday. Devils defenseman Mirco Mueller finished the tournament with a goal and five assists in seven games played. Mueller and the Swiss will play Finland in the quarterfinall on Thursday, May 17 at 2:15 p.m. ET.
As for Devils assistant coach Geoff Ward, his Team Germany lost to Canada 3-0 and finished sixth in their group.
