The New Jersey Devils announced today that goaltender Nico Daws has been reassigned to the Utica Comets, and Akira Schmid has been recalled to the Devils.
Daws joined the Devils on Feb. 4, and appeared in two games, once as a starter and once in relief of Jon Gillies.
The move is not unexpected, and something head coach Lindy Ruff addressed earlier this week as a potentiality knowing the team was heading into a lengthy stretch without games.
"I think any time a goaltender can go play, any young goaltender needs to play hockey games," he said.
The Devils are currently on a break of nine days without a game and return to practice on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Comets' upcoming games are Friday and Saturday.
