Nico Hischier Switzerland IIHF Czechia

It will be a first place finish for Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler, and the Swiss Men's National team after a 4-2 victory over Czechia earlier today.

Hischier assisted on the Swiss opening goal by Romain Loeffel at 12:41 of the first period before 39-year-old Andres Ambuhl broke a 1-1 tie and scored two goals in under five minutes in the second period to break open the game.

Hischier finished the game with an assist, three shots on net and 18:36 time on ice. Siegenthaler had the second-most ice time for the Swiss playing 19:06.

Assured first place in Group B, they will play a quarter-final game against the team that finishes fourth in Group A.

Earlier in the day Simon Nemec and Slovakia were in action in a tightly contested game with Slovenia. The Slovaks hung on for a 1-0 victory during which Nemec played 17:24 with three shots on goal.

The win for Slovakia means they still have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals. They will need another three points against Norway on Tuesday to remain at the very least in contention for quarter-final play.

Slovakia is chasing Latvia in the standings for points, where three will tie the Latvians. Latvia will need at least a point from their game against Switzerland on Tuesday night to advance and knock Slovakia out of contention.
