TEAM COMPARISONS
The Habs are hoping to close out their first road trip of the season with a win over the Penguins, after defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday. Montreal has been in Pittsburgh since Wednesday and has held two practices, along with some team bonding activities, ahead of tonight’s game. The Canadiens held the season edge in wins with two in three games over Dan Muse’s group in 2025-26.
Meanwhile, the Penguins also opened their 2026-27 campaign on the road with a win, thumping the Philadelphia Flyers 7-0. Pittsburgh had a chip on its shoulder after their cross-state rival eliminated them in Round 1 of last year’s playoffs. Since then, the Pens have added a few new faces to their roster, like Andrei Kuzmenko and Nick Robertson, said goodbye to Anthony Mantha – their leading goalscorer (33) in 2025-26 – and have once again begun the season with their core four of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Erik Karlsson and Kristopher Letang.

PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR
It’s as if the playoffs never ended for Josh Anderson; the 32-year-old veteran forward was all over the Leafs earlier this week, getting his name on the scoresheet with a goal and an assist, in addition to being named the third star of the game.
On the other end of the ice, Robertson registered a pair of tallies in the Pens’ season opener. Traded to Pittsburgh via Toronto on July 1, the 25-year-old inked a two-year deal with the Penguins this past offseason and will be looking to make the most of his time on the top line with Crosby and Rickard Rakell.
