HART TROPHY CONVERSATION: Bruins forward Brad Marchand, who earned his first NHL All-Star selection this season, is in the midst of a tightly contested race for the Hart Trophy, given annually to the "player judged most valuable to his team" in the NHL. In his eighth season, all with the Bruins, the 28-year-old Halifax, N.S. native leads the Bruins with 38 goals (career high, tied for second in NHL) and 45 assists (career high) for 83 points (career high, third in NHL) in 77 games. He also has three shorthanded goals (tied for fifth in NHL), eight game-winning goals (tied for third in NHL) and leads the Bruins with 19 multi-point games. He was named the NHL's second star for the month of January and was named the NHL's first star of the week for the week ending March 19. Since January 1, Marchand leads the league in goals (28) and is tied for the league lead in points (52). The last Bruins player to win the Hart Trophy was Joe Thornton (2005-06), who was traded during the season to the San Jose Sharks.
THIS WEEK'S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…
STAT OF THE WEEK: Tuukka Rask's shutout of the Dallas Stars on Thursday night was the 37th of his career and seventh of the season, tying his career season-high. He is the first Bruins goaltender to shut out the Stars since Gerry Cheevers on January 21, 1980.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "Yeah, I'm glad I don't have to play against him because those look like they hurt a lot of the times. It doesn't matter if he's hitting you or you're trying to hit him. He's pretty sturdy. And he just creates a lot of space. If he's in on the forecheck and hits one of their D-men, it kind of takes them out of the play and gives us a couple extra feet with the puck. Yeah, it's been good. It's nice to watch. It's nice to see a guy on our line banging someone. I know me and Dom **Dominic Moore
