Colorado's first penalty kill of the night was a successful one that included several shot blocks and a zone clearance from Parker Kelly. At the end of his shift, Kelly, whose stick broke earlier in the penalty kill, separated Winnipeg forward Mark Scheifele from the puck at the point before sending the puck out of Colorado's defensive zone.
Winnipeg's Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring with a right-circle one-timer at 18:55 of the first period.
Cole Perfetti gave the Jets a 2-0 lead with a one-timer from the right doorstep at 18:50 of the second period.
Colorado thought it had scored with a Gustav Stjenberg slapshot from the point at 6:09 of the third period, but the goal was taken off the board after a successful Winnipeg challenge for goaltender interference.
