FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -- Tyler Seguin was having flashbacks as he skated alongside six of the top prospects for the 2018 NHL Draft at a youth hockey clinic at Dr Pepper StarCenter Farmers Branch on Thursday.

Eight years ago, it was Seguin who was one of the top prospects in the 2010 NHL Draft and was leading a youth hockey clinic at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California.
"Some days it feels like it was yesterday, some days it feels like I've played 500-plus (NHL) games," Seguin said. "When I look at pictures, it feels like a lifetime ago."

Seguin and Dallas Stars teammates Jamie Benn and Ben Bishop, along with New Jersey Devils forward Blake Coleman, a native of nearby Plano, Texas, helped lead the clinic. They were joined by defenseman Rasmus Dahlin of Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League, forward Andrei Svechnikov of Barrie in the Ontario Hockey League, forward Brady Tkachuk of Boston University in Hockey East, forward Filip Zadina of Halifax in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, defenseman Evan Bouchard of London (OHL) and defenseman Noah Dobson of Acadie-Bathurst (QMJHL).

The first round of the draft is Friday (7:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVAS) and continues with Rounds 2-7 on Saturday (11 a.m. ET; NHLN, SN, TVAS) in Dallas.
The clinic also provided a flashback for Bishop from his time playing for the St. Louis Blues, who selected him in the third round (No. 85) in the 2005 NHL Draft. He remembered Brady and his older brother, Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk, running around the locker room while their father, Keith Tkachuk, was playing his final NHL seasons with the Blues.

"I remember them in the locker room and then watching them grow up playing, working out with them a little bit," Bishop said. "Seeing the success that they've had, I'm very happy for them. They definitely deserve it."
Seguin was selected by the Boston Bruins with the No. 2 pick in the 2010 draft and stepped right into their lineup, playing in 74 games as a rookie and getting 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists). Dahlin and Svechnikov, expected to be the first two selections of the 2018 draft by the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes, respectively, are expected to follow the same route. Tkachuk, Zadina, Bouchard and Dobson are also possibilities to play in the NHL in 2018-19.

However, to Seguin, that's too far in future for them to worry about.
"Right now the advice is about today and tomorrow, it's about enjoying this moment," he said. "It's not so much looking ahead. I've told them that after tomorrow you go to your (NHL team's development) camp, you're not a first overall, second overall pick, you're a piece of the puzzle. Now you're a part of that organization. If you want respect, you're going to have to earn it. I had to learn the hard way with guys like Mark Recchi and Shawn Thornton and (Zdeno) Chara. You have to earn that respect. They'll figure it out. For now, it's take this time and enjoy it with family and friends. It's been a dream your whole life so enjoy the moment."
