) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed goaltender Georgi Romanov to a two-year, entry-level contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Georgi has size, moves very well around the crease and is athletic," said Grier. "We feel like he has a good package to be successful."

Romanov, 23, played in 31 regular season games for Gornyak-UGMK of the Vysshaya hokkeinaya liga (VHL), the second-highest level of professional hockey in Russia, and compiled a .907 save percentage, 2.81 goals-against average and 8-13-5 record. The netminder played in three playoff games for Gorntak-UGMK, posting a .918 SV%, 3.15 GAA and 2-1-0 record. He helped lead his team to an overtime win in each of his first two playoffs starts this season and faced 40 or more shots in all three of his postseason appearances.

He also played in one Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) game this season, with his lone appearance coming for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the shootout portion of a 4-5 shootout loss to Barys Astana on Dec. 24, 2022. He saved three of four (75%) shootout attempts.

Romanov has spent much of the last four seasons in the VHL, recording a career .916 SV%, 2.58 GAA and 28-33-10 record. In 2021-22, he played in a career-high 39 games for Gornyak-UGMK, finishing with a .919 SV%, 2.47 GAA and 16-15-5 record.

From 2016-20, he played in 86 regular season games in the Molodezhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga (MHL), the highest level of junior hockey in Russia, and recorded a composite .938 SV%, 1.88 GAA and 37-22-11 record.

The six-foot-five, 207-pound goaltender is a native of Yekaterinburg, Russia.
