It took until the final game of the preseason for the Sens’ power play to find success, but when the floodgates finally opened, there was no stopping it.
The Sens nabbed four markers on the man advantage on Saturday night in Ottawa to take down the Canadiens, 4-3.
Claude Giroux got the scoring started midway through the first period on a slap shot from the point.
In the second period, Drake Batherson beat Canadiens netminder Jakub Dobeš with a one-timer, and Carter Yakemchuk scored on a wrister from the slot. William Eklund nabbed the game winner in the third period when he finished off a tic-tac-toe play from Tim Stützle and Dylan Cozens.
“Both units were amazing tonight, so it was great,” said Chabot, who assisted on Giroux’s goal.
“I think we just kept things simple, we played fast, we moved the puck really quick, we got shots on net. Couple guys made some great shots to score goals. But I think all in all, nobody was hanging on to it. It was quick plays and we got it right to the net. And when you do that most times, you'll get some bounces and [goals].”
Giroux finished with three points, adding secondary assists on the Batherson and Yakemchuk goals. He tied Dylan Cozens for the team lead in points during the preseason, with four.
“To get a win, that's huge. These games are hard to play on both sides, not always great. At the end of the day, guys dug deep and we were able to get the win,” said Giroux.
“I thought we played pretty hard. Played a pretty good game. Power play was obviously good. Had a few guys that [are] still a little rusty. The game was a little cleaner though than we've seen in the past. It was a good game, all in all,” said Travis Green.
