World Cup Roundup: Day 7

TORONTO -- Team Canada is headed to the final at the World Cup of Hockey 2016.
Tied 2-2 with Team Russia after two periods, Team Canada got third-period goals from Brad Marchand, Corey Perry and John Tavares to win 5-2 and advance to the best-of-3 World Cup final, which begins at Air Canada Centre on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; ESPN, CBC, TVA Sports).
It was the 14th straight win in a best-on-best tournament for Canada, which won the gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Team Canada will play the winner of the semifinal between Team Sweden and Team Europe on Sunday (1 p.m ET; ESPN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Fit For A King

Team Sweden rode strong defense and the play of goalie Henrik Lundqvist to the semifinal. Lundqvist missed the first game of the preliminary round Sunday due to illness, but returned and made 36 saves in a 2-0 shutout win against Team Finland on Tuesday. He faced 49 shots against Team North America to get his team to overtime, where it lost 4-3 on Wednesday. The one point in overtime was enough to get Team Sweden into the semifinal.
"We know Lundqvist] is going to be there for us," Team Sweden defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson said. "He's going to be ready and bring his A game."

Halaked In

Team Europe has also relied heavily on its goalie in the World Cup. Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves to shut out Team USA 3-0 in the first preliminary game, then stopped 28 of 30 shots in a 3-2 overtime win against Team Czech Republic that sent Team Europe to the semifinal. He allowed four goals on 46 shots against Team Canada, but has stopped 105 of the 111 shots he has faced.
