Seguin scores twice for Stars in OT victory against Capitals

DALLAS --Tyler Seguin scored two goals, including the winner at 3:37 of overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 2-1 victory against the Washington Capitals at American Airlines Center on Friday.

Alexander Radulov skated around the net before sending a pass to Seguin, who scored at the right post.
"Just hopped on the ice and went back door," said Seguin, who has six points (four goals, two assists) in a four-game point streak. "I didn't see the puck. I knew Radulov] had it and just laid it on my stick, and I went back door and pushed it in."

Radulov had two assists and Anton Khudobin made 36 saves for Dallas (22-16-4), which extended its point streak to five games (4-0-1).
The Stars are 13-0-4 in their past 17 home games against the Capitals since Oct. 8, 1996.

Lars Eller scored and Pheonix Copley made 27 saves for Washington (24-12-4), which has lost three straight games for the first time this season.
"To me, it's pretty much the exact opposite of the other two losses," Capitals coach Todd Reirden said. "It's a shame we leave with only one point."
It was Copley's first loss since Nov. 14 (eight starts).
"He just continues to get better and that's just a huge advantage for our team to not have to rely on [Braden] Holtby, who's obviously one of the top goalies in the League," Reirden said.
Seguin gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 13:20 of the first period with a power-play goal, scoring on a slap shot into an open net off a rebound from the left circle.

Eller tied it 1-1 at 10:19 of the second period, skating out from below the goal line and scoring with a backhand short side from the left circle. He has 109 goals in the NHL, tying him with Jannik Hansen for third in League history among players from Denmark behind Frans Nielsen (159) and Mikkel Boedker (114).
Washington outshot Dallas 32-14 over the final two periods and overtime after being outshot 15-5 in the first period.
"If we play a second and third period like that, then we're going to win a lot of games," Reirden said.

Though Khudobin played the entire game, Ben Bishop was technically the Stars starting goalie because Montgomery mistakenly circled his name on the pregame sheet. Bishop stood on the ice next to the bench during the national anthem and came off the ice before play began. Dallas could have been penalized for not starting Bishop, but the Capitals declined.
"I just made a mistake," Montgomery said. "I guess I'm just used to that (penciling in Bishop as starter) in the last three home games. … And the refs were like 'OK' instead of us changing after. They let the other team know and they said OK."

Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin played in his 204th consecutive game, his longest streak in the NHL. … Brooks Orpik's assist on Eller's goal was his first point since returning after missing 27 games because of knee surgery. … Washington went 0-for-3 on the power play and is 1-for-27 in its past nine games. … The Stars played without captain Jamie Benn after he sustained an upper-body injury in the second period of a 5-4 win against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. He is expected to return to the lineup Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets.
