The 33-year-old defenseman is in the final season of a two-year contract he signed with the Canucks on July 28, and can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. He has 21 points (three goals, 18 assists) in 55 games this season.

"He was a leader on our hockey team and helped several of our players during his time here. We are excited to get a third-round pick as we continue to build out the depth of our prospect pool."
Selected by the Maple Leafs with the No. 5 pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, Schenn has 190 points (41 goals, 149 assists) in 918 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning, and six points (three goals, three assists) in 31 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Schenn won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
Toronto made two other trades Tuesday; they acquired defenseman Erik Gustafsson and the Boston Bruins' first-round pick in the 2023 Draft from the Washington Capitals for defenseman Rasmus Sandin, and acquired a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft from the New York Islanders for forward Pierre Engvall.
Gustafsson has 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists) in 61 games with the Capitals this season. Selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (No. 93) of the 2012 NHL Draft, the 30-year-old has 187 points (39 goals, 148 assists) in 370 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and Capitals and eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 31 playoff games.
The Maple Leafs (37-15-8), who are second in the Atlantic Division, 15 points behind the first-place Bruins and four points ahead of the third-place Lightning, also acquired defenseman Jake McCabe and forward Sam Lafferty from the Blackhawks on Monday, and centers Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari from the St. Louis Blues in a three-team trade Feb. 17.
