Scamurra PWHL Takeover Tour

It’s a different name on the front, but same name on the back for the Scamurra family.

Ahead of the PWHL’s Takeover Tour at Capital One Arena in Washington DC on Sunday, Montreal Victoire forward Hayley Scamurra rocked her dad’s old Washington Capitals sweater to honor him, and the team hosting the PWHL matchup.

The Victoire faced off against the New York Sirens in the latest iteration of the special event.

Scamurra is the daughter of former Capitals defenseman Peter Scamurra, who played for the team from 1975-1980.

“There’s so much history there,” Hayley Scamurra said. “It’s how he and my mom met, too, when he played for the Capitals. So, I think to be able to go to where he started his pro career and getting to continue mine and grow the women’s game in the same area is pretty cool.”

Sunday’s game was a hit in DC, setting a new record for U.S. women’s hockey with 17,288 fans in attendance.

The Sirens also represented the local NHL team, rocking Capitals jerseys for their arrivals to the arena.

Fans were treated to a 2-1 Sirens win. Scamurra recorded an assist on the Victoire goal.

Scamurra – a staple on the United States women’s national team in the past – will continue her national representation at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, donning the red, white and blue once again on the world stage.

She has won three gold medals and three silvers at the world championship and a silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
