Springer in hockey gear

Yes, it's a baseball field. No, there's no ice. But George Springer was ready anyway.

The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder showed up to batting practice at Rogers Centre wearing the sweet hockey jersey that the team gave away at Monday's game.

Not only that, but he added the gear too: helmet, gloves and, of course, the hockey stick. (His baseball bat was nowhere to be seen).

During the practice, Springer showed off his stick handling skills (with a baseball instead of a puck) and let his teammates try on the hockey gear.

The jersey – which the Blue Jays gave to the first 15,000 fans at the ballpark – featured the Blue Jays crest on the front, and shortstop Ernie Clement’s name and number on the back.

Before his MLB days, Clement was a star high school hockey player in Rochester, N.Y. His senior year, he scored 27 goals and 25 assists in 20 games.

Springer, a native of New Britain, CT., has always been a big hockey guy and was root, root, rooting on Team USA during its gold medal run at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
