Minnesota Wild forward Nino Niederreiter had a goal and an assist and Colorado Avalanche goaltender Reto Berra made 26 saves to lead Switzerland to a 3-2 overtime victory against Denmark in preliminary-round play in Group A at the 2016 IIHF World Championship at Ice Palace in Moscow.
Eric Blum scored 4:08 into overtime to give Switzerland its first win. It had lost its first two games in overtime.

Niederreiter scored with 2:02 left in the third period to tie the game 2-2. Berra made 11 saves in the third.
Denmark took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Frederik Storm and Nikolaj Ehlers (Winnipeg Jets). Denmark goaltender Sebastian Dahm made 39 saves.
Niederreiter assisted a goal by Yannick Weber (Vancouver Canucks) 9:42 into the third to pull Switzerland within 2-1.

Germany 5, Slovakia 1:Forwards Patrick Reimer, Patrick Hager, Dominik Kahun and Philip Gogulla each had a goal and an assist in preliminary-round play in Group B at Yubileiny Arena in St. Petersburg.
