Patrik Laine ruled out any chance he'll try to grow a playoff beard if the Winnipeg Jets can reach the postseason in a potential return to play in the coming months.

"No that was once, just once for me," Laine said Friday. "Once was enough. And it didn't look good either, so I'm done with the beard."

On a bet with his cousin Kimmo that he could grow a better beard, Laine grew out a wispy, blonde facial growth during the 2018-19 season and kept it until after the Jets were eliminated in five games by the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final.

With the beard, Laine scored 44 goals in 82 games, second in the League to the 49 by Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, and helped the Jets finish second in the NHL regular season with 114 points.

The beard became its own social media meme, described as everything from a goat's face to a horrible bird's nest. Laine finally shaved it in July, 2018.
