Matt-Martin 12-31

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matt Martin is keeping a diary of his experiences at the 2017 Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. The Maple Leafs face the Detroit Red Wings (3 p.m. ET; NBC, TVAS, Sportsnet) on Sunday in the 20th outdoor regular-season game and the second of four this season.
In his installment Saturday, Martin talks about conditions at the outdoor practice and the memorable sounds and sights inside the shared locker room with Maple Leafs legends

TORONTO -- Practice was fun today. After skating around with our families here yesterday, it was back to business today. We're still enjoying ourselves and still having fun but obviously we have to dial it in and get ready for the game tomorrow, which is a big one.
The sun was shining today and you noticed it a little bit. We noticed that and a few other things, like the boards seem more lively and the ice is really good. At one end that sun is a little bit of a problem, but that's probably more of an issue for the goaltenders than for me. Not a huge concern on my end. I put on some of the eye black today. I don't really know if it helps or not. I wore it in 2014 at the game at Yankee Stadium. I like it for the look; you don't get to wear it every day. Just to change it up a little, get into character a little bit.
The ice is pretty smooth and it looks pretty good. I think the crew here takes a lot of pride in it. A lot of them have asked us how the ice is. And it's very good.
Inside our room here it's really amazing. It's not every day that I'll be sitting between Dave Andreychuk and Tiger Williams. That's a pretty special thing, seeing Tie Domi, Darryl Sittler, all the legends that are here in between us, socializing and having a good time. And you can see all the guys walking around, getting sticks signed by everybody. We're really enjoying this, especially with so many guys from this area. They grew up watching a lot of these guys, and so did their parents. It's a memory everyone's trying to take in and enjoy. Hopefully the Leafs legends can get the win today to get the ball rolling.
