Vilardi, Kings snap 2-game losing streak

ELMONT, N.Y. -- The Los Angeles Kings scored three goals in 5:34 during the second period and held on for a 3-2 win against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Friday.

Phillip Danault, Arthur Kaliyev and Gabriel Vilardi scored for the Kings (33-19-8), who are 1-1-1 on a five-game road trip, including a 4-3 overtime loss at the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. Jonathan Quick made 16 saves.
It was Quick's 370th NHL win, passing Tom Barrasso for third among United States-born goalies.
"We held on all night," Quick said. "We knew how they play."

LAK@NYI: Kaliyev scores in 2nd period

Noah Dobson and Adam Pelech scored for the Islanders (30-25-7), who had won three of four. Ilya Sorokin made 26 saves.
"We allowed the momentum swing to be too big," New York forward Matt Martin said. "We've got to respond right after that a little better, obviously.
"It was 3-0 … we got a goal on the power play late in the second, and then 'Pelly' banged one home and we gave ourselves a chance. It just wasn't enough."
Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead at 6:40 of the second when Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov accidentally swatted the puck out of midair past Sorokin after a save on Danault's redirection of Viktor Arvidsson's shot from the left face-off circle.
Danault was credited with his first goal in eight games.
"Sometimes you go to the front of the net and get rewarded," Danault said. "I've been going there the last couple games. Tonight, [I was] going back at it in front of the net and got rewarded."

LAK@NYI: Vilardi increases Kings' lead in 2nd period

Kaliyev made it 2-0 just 1:25 later at 8:05, finishing a 2-on-1 with Rasmus Kupari, and Vilardi gave the Kings a 3-0 lead with a one-timer from the slot at 12:14.
Dobson cut it to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 16:34, scoring on a one-timer from beyond the circles after a feed from Brock Nelson.
The Islanders were outshot 24-13 through the first two periods.
"We made a couple of mistakes, and they made us pay for it," New York coach Lane Lambert said. "I'll give them credit, they played well. They were structurally good and made it very difficult for us on the forecheck."

LAK@NYI: Danault gives Kings lead in 2nd period

Pelech scored at 15:23 of the third period when his centering feed went off the skate of Los Angeles defenseman Matt Roy and got past Quick for the 3-2 final.
"That team doesn't go away," Kings coach Todd McLellan said. "They get better in the second half. That third goal was a momentum swing."
NOTES: Quick needs four wins to tie John Vanbiesbrouck for second among U.S.-born goalies. Ryan Miller leads with 391. … It was Dobson's fifth power-play goal this season. He's tied for third among NHL defensemen with Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres and Thomas Chabot of the Ottawa Senators.
