Connor, Roslovic impress, but Jets fall to Oilers

PENTICTON, B.C. - The Winnipeg Jets closed out the 2016 Young Stars Classic with a 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers Monday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The Jets head home with an 0-3 record following losses to the Oilers, Canucks and Flames.
Main training camp kicks off this Friday at MTS Iceplex.
"I think we got better as the game went on," Moose Head Coach Pascal Vincent said. "Today, regardless of the score, the players were more in sync. There are some changes from what they're used to on the ice to what we expect, and that got better. … We wanted to introduce to the players what it takes to play at this level. For them to go to the big camp, the Jets camp now, they know the language we're talking about and a bit more about what we expect."

The Jets opened the scoring midway through the first as a pair of 2015 draftees hooked up for a little magic.

, who buried it with authority after eluding cover at the right circle.
"I think our games complement each other real well," Connor said, adding of his linemate: "Great speed, good vision and he's got a high motor, he really works really hard and hounds the puck.
"It was a lot of fun. He's a great player, I think we really fed off each other and I learned a lot from him this weekend."
The two have been together on a line all week and today was, without question, their best effort yet. Connor, in particular, could have had three or four goals, if not for the often heroic goaltending of Edmonton's Keven Bouchard.
Connor finished the night with nine of the Jets' 44 shots.

"He's got speed and we're looking for that," Vincent said. "We're looking for a guy that can move quick, can be on the puck, create offence - we certainly don't want to slow him down there. We want to see what he can bring to the table."

Shots on goal favoured the Oilers 10-6 after one period of play.
The Jets were the better of the two teams in the middle frame, outshooting the Oilers 14-5, but Bouchard stood tall, turning them all away, including the 10 that came on the Jets' three power-play chances.
"Nobody likes a loss and it was obviously a tough weekend, but definitely, but start to finish, we improved on everything, structure, habits," Connor said.
"I thought there was good progression all weekend.
"Every time you get to put on the Jets jersey it's pretty exciting. The competition was tough and there are definitely a lot of big guys out there, but I thought we did a good job coming together and competing."

The Oilers took a 2-1 lead with 3:13 to play in the period. Patrick Russell was the beneficiary of a goalmouth scramble, tucking the puck into the open side after fighting for and establishing position in the blue paint.
Drake Caggiula put the Oilers up by two early in the third as he jammed home a loose puck on an odd-man rush. Berdin got a piece of the Joey Benik centering pass, but not enough as the puck sat free at the lip of the crease.
Caggiula and this year's third-overall pick, Jesse Puljujarvi, were both on the scene, but the former UND standout was last to make contact.
Benik made it a 4-1 game with a power-play goal at 6:17, rifling a shot just under the bar over Berdin's right shoulder.
