The battle to be named Greatest NHL Uniform is waging, with fans having until Dec. 31 to make their picks from 100 entries.
From now until the end of the year, NHL.com staffers will be weighing in with their favorites. Today, NHL.com Director of Editorial Shawn Roarke explains why the uniforms worn by the Nashville Predators from 1998-2011 are his favorite.

I loved everything about the Nashville Predators when they joined the NHL, but the logo pushed it over the top. It was the perfect logo in my mind, powerful but also artistic. The Predators obviously think so as well. It has remained, with only minor alterations, throughout their first 18 seasons in the League.
For those that don't know, the logo paid homage to the fossils of a saber-toothed tiger found in downtown Nashville by construction workers in the spring of 1971. Saber-toothed tigers have been extinct for approximately 10,000 years. I loved the way the logo was presented on each uniform. On the home uniform, it was set off by a surrounding blue triangle that gave the head a bit of a 3-D look. The away setup eschewed the triangle, but the dominant navy blue jersey color still made the logo pop. I also thought the inaugural-season shoulder patches were pretty cool and the hints of gold, which became a primary color in later editions of the uniform, were perfect.
In my personal collection, I have a Tom Fitzgerald jersey from this period with the captain's C on the front. There aren't many in my collection I would put before that one. It still looks sharp!
