Greatest Moments of the Season returns

David Ayres played in one NHL game this season, but it was significant enough to become one of the four remaining entries in the race for the Greatest Moment of the NHL Season ... So Far.

Andrei Svechnikov's lacrosse-style goal for the Carolina Hurricanes, Pekka Rinne's goalie goal for the Nashville Predators and Marc-Andre Fleury's sprawling save for the Vegas Golden Knights are the other moments from the original field of 64 to reach the semifinal round.

Fan voting for the semifinals will begin on Monday, June 22, with Rinne taking on Fleury. Ayres will face off against Svechnikov on June 23, with the final match set for June 24.

Ayres became the first emergency backup goalie to win an NHL game when the 42-year-old helped the Hurricanes defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 on Feb. 22. His moment defeated Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals scoring his 700th NHL goal on the same day, in a fan vote on Twitter and Instagram.

Rinne's goal, which came against the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 9, reached the semifinals with a fourth-round win against Oliver Ekman-Larsson bringing a special guest to the Arizona Coyotes' Hockey Fights Cancer night on Nov. 16. Fleury's save against the Maple Leafs on Nov. 19 advanced by defeating Filip Forsberg's lacrosse-style goal for the Predators on Jan. 14, and Svechnikov's goal, scored against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 29, advanced by defeating Blake Coleman's one-handed, sliding goal for the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 4.
