KARLSSON BECOMES ALL-TIME LEADER AMONG SENATORS DEFENSEMEN

* Karlsson, the No. 15 pick by the Senators in the 2008 NHL Draft, earned his 410th, 411th and 412th career points (107-305-412) to pass Wade Redden (101-309-410) for the top spot among Ottawa defensemen. Karlsson did so while playing in his 506th NHL game, 332 fewer than Redden (838 GP) played with the Senators.
* Via Elias, Karlsson is one of two active defensemen to lead his current team in career points by a defenseman (also Dustin Byfuglien w/ WPG/ATL).

WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS

Home Team in Caps
Minnesota 3, TORONTO 2
WASHINGTON 4, Boston 3 (OT)
ANAHEIM 6, Carolina 5 (SO)
Ottawa 4, SAN JOSE 2

NO LEAD IS SAFE

Of the four games played Wednesday, three saw a team erase a multi-goal deficit (BOS-WSH, OTT-SJS and CAR-ANA). Though the Senators escaped with a regulation win after leading 2-0, the other two games required extra time:
* The Anaheim Ducks faced a trio of two-goal deficits, but Nick Ritchie and Corey Perry (1-1-2) scored 91 seconds apart in the final four minutes of the third period before the Ducks eventually won in a shootout. Anaheim improved to 4-1-1 in its past six games and 10-2-1 in its past 13 head-to-head games against the Carolina Hurricanes since Nov. 30, 2008 (CAR: 3-6-4).
* The Boston Bruins erased a three-goal deficit, but Nicklas Backstrom scored at 1:36 of overtime to lift the Washington Capitals to their seventh consecutive victory in the head-to-head series since the start of 2014-15 (BOS: 0-5-2). It marked the second time this season that the Capitals won after surrendering a three-goal lead (also Nov. 3 vs. CAR: 4-3 OT W). Via Elias, Washington last had multiple such wins in a season -- games when they yielded three-goal leads and won -- in 2010-11 (also 2x).
