Roberto Luongo helps Panthers win

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Aleksander Barkov has not scored a goal in regulation in 20 games, but he scored his second game-winning shootout goal in seven days for the Florida Panthers.
Barkov scored the only goal in the shootout with a high backhand and Roberto Luongo made 36 saves when the Panthers defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 at BB&T Center on Saturday.
"Of course I want to score in the 60 minutes, but if that's the only chance I can score, then I'm going to use it," said Barkov, who led Florida last season with 28 goals but hasn't scored since Oct. 15. "That was a big win for us, and to get the chance to win the game for a team you'll do anything for that."

Barkov also had the game-winning shootout goal in a 3-2 victory against the New York Rangers on Sunday.
Luongo stopped Sam Gagner, Cam Atkinson and Alex Wennberg in the shootout. Florida is 2-1 in shootouts this season and 4-0 in overtime.
"We're a confident group when we get to extra time that we can get the job done, whether that's 3-on-3 or even the shootout. We've had some success over the last couple of years," Luongo said. "We carried the play in overtime. I thought we had a couple of good chances we didn't bury, but we found a way to get it done in the shootout there."

Jaromir Jagr scored in regulation for the Panthers (11-9-1), who have won five of seven.
Brandon Saad scored for the Blue Jackets, who were coming off a 5-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday that helped them tie their franchise record for most victories in the month of November with eight. Sergei Bobrovsky started for a second consecutive night and made 22 saves.
The Panthers led 1-0 before Saad scored with 7:10 remaining in the third period. After a Columbus shot off a faceoff was blocked in the right circle, Saad fought off the checking of defenseman Mark Pysyk to get his stick loose and fire a backhand that beat Luongo high to the glove side.
"I thought we controlled most of the game," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. "Second back-to-back in less than a week. I thought we had energy throughout the game. I'm happy about what happened. Obviously, you want to win the game, but I thought we played really well."

Goal of the game

Jagr scored 16:45 into the game when he one-timed a pass from Barkov at the bottom of the left circle. Jagr shot while he was being checked by Lukas Sedlak and the puck moved slowly toward the net before going through Bobrovsky's legs. It was the 752nd career goal for Jagr, who stands third on the NHL's all-time list behind Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801).

Saves of the game

With Columbus on the power play early in the third period, Luongo preserved Florida's 1-0 lead with consecutive saves on Gagner's one-timer from the front of the net and Atkinson's shot from the side off the rebound.

Highlight of the game

The overtime period featured good chances for both teams, and one of them came as the result of a spin in the right circle by Blue Jackets forward Nick Foligno that got him around Panthers forward Jonathan Marchessault and in alone against Luongo, who stopped Foligno's shot from close range.

Unsung moment of the game

Florida led 1-0 early in the third period when Columbus forward Scott Hartnell redirected Saad's pass on a 2-on-1. Luongo was able to get his blocker on the puck and it ricocheted off the left post.

Columbus came in with the top power play in the NHL (29.4 percent) but was 0-for-2. … Florida begins a season-long six-game road trip Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes. … Barkov is 2-for-3 in shootouts this season after going 5-for-6 in 2015-16. … Florida had one shot on goal in the first 10 minutes of the third period. … Forward Shawn Thornton made his fourth appearance of the season for Florida and had an assist on Jagr's goal for his first point. … Columbus defenseman David Savard led both teams with four blocked shots and five hits.
