CBJ@CHI: Bjorkstrand, Stenlund connect for late lead

CHICAGO -- Kevin Stenlund scored the go-ahead goal with 1:14 remaining in the third period, and the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-5 at United Center on Thursday.

Stenlund's shot from the slot went off the stick of Blackhawks defenseman Nikita Zadorov and between goalie Kevin Lankinen's legs.
"[The puck] was bobbling a little bit, but I was just trying to get the first shot on the goal." Stenlund said. "[I'm] lucky it went in."
Cam Atkinson had a goal and three assists, and Jack Roslovic scored twice for the Blue Jackets (7-5-3), who are 3-1-0 in their past four games. Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves.
"You don't ever really want to let in five goals, but if you let in five you've got to score six, I guess," Roslovic said. "It's good, it's good for the confidence of our group."

Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane each had a goal and two assists for the Blackhawks (6-5-4), who had their three-game winning streak end. Lankinen made 37 saves.
"We're in the position to win the game at multiple times," Chicago coach Jeremy Colliton said. "We liked our first period, really liked the start of the second. We did little things as the game went on that gave them momentum. To their credit, they capitalized on their chances. They have some good players who had good nights and made us pay. We have to manage the puck better and have a killer instinct in the third period when we have the lead."

CBJ@CHI: Atkinson converts turnover for opening SHG

The teams play here again Saturday.
Atkinson stole the puck from Nicolas Beaudin then scored from the high slot for a 1-0 lead at 12:10 of the first period. He passed Rick Nash for the Blue Jackets record with his 15h shorthanded goal.
"I poke-checked it to Nick [Foligno] and Nick just made an area play," Atkinson said. "It kind of caught me by surprise because I didn't realize how far Kane and DeBrincat were back, so one I'll take, for sure."
Ian Mitchell and Beaudin each scored his first NHL goal 56 seconds apart for a 2-1 lead in the second period.
Mitchell tied it 1-1 at 21 seconds with a tap-in at the right post. Zadorov's shot from the point went off the boards behind the net to Beaudin, who lifted a shot past Korpisalo for a 2-1 lead at 1:17.
"I was really happy for [Mitchell], everyone was happy," Beaudin said. "Next shift, I score, so it was kind of funny we scored one after the other."

Kane sent a backhand pass to the slot for Pius Suter, who extended the lead to 3-1 at 13:30 with a tap-in goal.
Roslovic's one-timer on the power play from the top of the right face-off circle made it 3-2 with 2:00 remaining. Chicago had been 12-for-12 on the penalty kill in its previous five games.
Kane made it 4-2 29 seconds into the third period with a power-play goal from the right circle.
Boone Jenner and Roslovic scored 1:20 apart to tie it 4-4. Jenner made it 4-3 at 6:39 when he knocked in a loose puck from Atkinson's shot in front of the net, then Roslovic scored his second with a shot from the right circle to tie it 4-4 at 7:59.
"We made some plays, some guys made some plays," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. "You could just see some confidence grow. I thought we still had some breakdowns and still gave up some chances, but I just liked the way we made some plays. We made some passes and we climbed out of corners in the offensive zone. Our [defensemen] were involved in motion offensively, so that's a good sign."
DeBrincat made it 5-4 at 13:05 with a one-timer from the left face-off circle off a Kane backhand pass.
Michael Del Zotto scored his first goal with the Blue Jackets to tie it 5-5 with 2:41 remaining with a shot from the left circle. He had an assist on Stenlund's game-winner. The defenseman signed a one-year contract Jan. 10 after being on a pro tryout contract during training camp.
