Canada invites Nolan Patrick to World Junior Summer Showcase

Brandon center Nolan Patrick, who could be the first pick of the 2017 NHL Draft presented by adidas, is one of 42 players invited to play for Canada at the 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase.

The camp will be held at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan from July 29 to Aug. 5, and will include practices and games against the United States, Finland and Sweden. It's the first step in picking the teams that will play at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Patrick was limited to 33 games in part because of an undiagnosed sports hernia, but finished 10th in the Western Hockey League with an average of 1.39 points per game. He was named the best professional prospect in the Canadian Hockey League.

Patrick is one of six players in the top 10 on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of North American skaters for the 2017 draft invited to the camp. He will be joined by Windsor center Gabriel Vilardi (No. 4), Portland center Cody Glass (6), Mississauga right wing Owen Tippett (7), Brooks defenseman Cale Makar (9) and Owen Sound center Nick Suzuki (10).
In addition, eight players will return from the 2017 WJC team that won the silver medal. Among them are goaltender Carter Hart (Philadelphia Flyers), who made 31 saves in the 5-4 shootout loss to the United States in the gold-medal game but had a 2.38 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in four games.
Also at the camp from the 2017 WJC team will be defensemen Jake Bean (Carolina Hurricanes), Dante Fabbro (Nashville Predators) and Kale Clague (Los Angeles Kings), and forwards Dillon Dube (Calgary Flames), Tyson Jost (Colorado Avalanche), Pierre-Luc Dubois (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Michael McLeod (New Jersey Devils).
Dominique Ducharme will return to coach Canada for the 2018 WJC, which will be held at KeyBank Center and HarborCenter in Buffalo from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2018. Canada also will play the U.S. in the first outdoor WJC game, at New Era Field, home of the Buffalo Bills, on Dec. 29.
